Event will take place rain or shine
♦
The lighthouses will be open from 9 AM to 3 PM
♦ Offshore
lighthouses will be opened for viewing; however, safety is paramount. The
public must use their discretion when choosing a lighthouse, and the Coast
Guard will provide a list identifying the ease of access for each lighthouse
so visitors can make that choice
♦ A digital photo
with history and a survey of each lighthouse will be posted on
www.lighthouseday.com every day for 52 days leading up to the event
♦ Access to
lighthouses will be FREE to the public, but transportation to
offshore lighthouses will not be provided
♦
Partnership between the U.S. Coast Guard, Maine
Office of Tourism and the American Lighthouse Foundation is meant to
increase awareness of Maine’s rich maritime history, its lighthouses and
their keepers
