Maine Preservation presented the American Lighthouse Foundation (ALF), which
is based in Rockland, Maine, with its 2009 “Organization Award” for the 2007
exterior restoration of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse and the 2008 masonry base
rehabilitation project at Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse.
In addition, Maine Preservation recognized the Friends of Pemaquid Point
Lighthouse, a chapter of ALF, and J.B. Leslie Masonry Company for their
important roles in these projects.
“The American Lighthouse Foundation has a substantial challenge in
facilitating the maintenance of lighthouses across the country and
particularly in Maine, they are meeting this challenge admirably,” said Greg
Paxton, executive director of Maine Preservation.
Marty Welt, chairman of the Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Jim
Leslie, president of J.B. Leslie Masonry Company and Bob Trapani, Jr.,
executive director of the American Lighthouse Foundation, were in attendance
to receive Maine Preservation’s 2009 Honor Award.
“The American Lighthouse Foundation is honored to receive a 2009 Maine
Preservation Honor Award,” said Bob Trapani. “This recognition signifies the
type of commitment ALF has to lighthouse preservation and to the teamwork
necessary to be successful at saving historic properties that are important
to the public.”
“We could not have been nearly as effective with the restoration projects at
Pemaquid Point and Cape Elizabeth lighthouses without vital teamwork from
the Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, J.B. Leslie Masonry Company, Maine
Historic Preservation Commission, United States Coast Guard, Building
Conservation Associates, Edison Coatings, Testwell, Inc and the nonprofit
Maine Preservation.”
Trapani concluded, “By working together with these professional entities,
Maine’s iconic Pemaquid Point and Cape Elizabeth lighthouses will continue
‘shine on’ well into the future.”
